Fall Decorating Trends

I know it's only August, but I just wanted to give you a heads-up on what some of the latest fall decorating trends are for this year.

Disclaimer:  fall is my favorite time of year.  I love the crisp air, the smell of leaves on a forest floor, and my birthday falls in October.  I go all-out when it comes to decorating my home for the autumn!  I will confess, however, that I am not much of a football fan...

Foxes and Owls

Owls have made their comeback (remember the 80's?) and now we have added foxes to the mix!  They are cute little furry critters, and you will see them all over the place.  Have you seen the door decoration at Pier 1 made from curled wood?  Check it out!

Pumpkins and Gourds Everywhere

Well, of course, it is harvest time--so it goes wihtot saying that pumpkins and gourds are a perennial autumn staple.  All shapes, all sizes; you will even find them at your local dollar stores if you get there soon.  We like the cute ones at Dollar Tree with the gold stems!

You can't go wrong with pumpkins on the porch--unless you live near deer.  I found out last year that we didn't have pumpkin smashers, just hungry deer!

Natural Elements

Leaves, leaves, leaves!  You'll see the on pillows this year, on bedding, on throw blankets.  They are great as a garland on a mantle, and work well in your fall tablescapes.

Birch bark elements can be seen on candles and even lamps!  Take a look at the birch bark lamp we found at Pier 1!

Candles

What doesn't create more of a mood than candles?  We see them everywhere we turn, in all the typical fall colors.  Use them generously on your dinner table and coffee table vignettes.

Plaids

I have wanted an orange and brown throw blanket for years, just to set out on my front porch bench.  It reminds me of football season and kids trick-or-treating, and makes a great place to set a lantern with an automatic candle, a mum plant, and some gourds. They just look so cozy!

It's pretty easy to add the latest fall decorating trends to your home this fall, before it's time to get ready for the winter holidays.  Have fun with it, and don't forget to add your coffee table, your front porch, and your dining room and living room to the mix.  I'll be writing a blog about what are some of my favorite must-have accessories for fall in the coming weeks.  Happy decorating!
